Alwyn is an Electrical Engineer with over 18 years’ experience in delivering major multi-discipline projects in the UK, Australasia and South Africa. He is responsible for the Infrastructure division at BakerHicks, providing overall leadership and strategy for the Aviation, Power, Rail and Public sectors. He also heads up BakerHicks’ Power sector, leading our team of experts on some of the industry’s most challenging high voltage projects of up to £1.2 billion in value across the UK.
As a qualified TP137 design verification engineer he is one of a selected few authorised and trusted to sign off high voltage projects for National Grid. Alwyn, who holds a Master’s Degree and is a published author, is creative and innovative; he has helped revolutionise cable tunnel projects, having been instrumental in the development of a new mechanised cable installation methodology, which remains in use.
His notable projects include some of the largest infrastructure installations in the UK; the 400kV cable installation for the Croydon cable tunnel in south London and the Woodhead cable tunnel through the Pennines. He also helped to develop the cable delivery strategy for the 400kV London Power Tunnels Phase 1 through central London for National Grid.
More recently he has overseen the development for the North West Coast Connection (Morecambe Bay tunnel) project, which was the largest planned upgrade to the transmission network since it was originally built. He is also overseeing the design of the IFA2 HVDC convertor station being built in Southampton as part of the latest UK-Europe interconnection project.
