Highlights

  • Supporting continued safety on Scotland’s railway
  • Rigorous earthwork inspections and data analysis
  • More than 20,000 examinations completed over four years

BakerHicks’ team of certified Individual Working Alone (IWA) earthwork specialists assessed the condition of earthworks assets across Scotland, collecting and analysing data through inspections of slopes and embankments.

A joint strategic approach ensured any faults or defects identified were promptly reported to Network Rail, helping to maintain the safety of railway lines in remote areas. To address the challenge of limited daylight and visibility during winter months, BakerHicks successfully conducted a nighttime examination trial using robust artificial lighting, which resulted in the concept being considered as an option for future examinations where required.
