PURPOSE

Delivering creative design, engineering and project delivery solutions together with our clients. Shaping a healthier, sustainable and safer world.

From consulting to construction and compliance, through our multi-disciplinary design and engineering teams, we partner with companies across the globe, helping them realise their projects in the most efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable way.

Our story spans over six decades, starting with two pioneers:

Sir John Baker (later Lord Baker), IDC Group’s Research and Development Director and previously Head of Cambridge University’s Engineering Department, and Howard Hicks, the Group Chairman and Chief Executive.

As an international consultancy, engineering and project management company with an impressive collection of blue-chip clients, we later joined the Morgan Sindall Group in 2007 and rebranded to BakerHicks in 2017.

The BakerHicks Story

1957-1987
The IDC Group and Howard Hicks era

The BakerHicks story began in 1957 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, providing a fully integrated design and construction service for industry and commerce in the UK.

1987-1988
Matthew Hall Group acquires IDC Group

In 1987, IDC was acquired by the Matthew Hall Group, a chemical and industrial engineering company with a heritage dating back to 1848. By 1988, Matthew Hall Group comprised of over 40 companies and operated in the UK, Australia, Europe and North America.

1988-2007
AMEC acquires Matthew Hall Group

In 1988, the international consultancy, engineering and project management company, AMEC plc, bought Matthew Hall Group. AMEC formed Design and Project Services Limited (DPS) as its construction and civil engineering arm, operating in the UK’s health, defence, industrial, utilities and transport sectors.

1998
AMEC opens office in Basel, Switzerland

Following business expansion into the Swiss Life Sciences market, AMEC launched its Basel office, further extending into pharma, biotech, medtech, fine chemicals and manufacturing sectors and forming what is today our European arm of the business.

2007
Morgan Sindall acquire AMEC, forming Morgan Professional Services

In 2007, Morgan Sindall Group bought AMEC DPS, along with AMEC’s urban regeneration business, AMEC Developments (ADL). The move established our company as the design and engineering arm of the Group.

2010
Morgan Sindall Professional Services was established

Morgan Professional Services became Morgan Sindall Professional Services, operating under the Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure umbrella for a further five years, until 2015, when we became a separate entity.

2017
Morgan Sindall Professional Services (UK) become BakerHicks

Marking an impressive heritage, the UK company takes the names of its two founding partners. European expansion continues into Zurich, Switzerland and Vienna in Austria.

2018
Further European expansion

Offices opened in Bern, Switzerland and Karlsruhe, Germany, further expanding our presence in the D-A-CH region.

2020
