The BakerHicks story

1957-1987

The IDC Group and Howard Hicks era

The BakerHicks story began in 1957 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, providing a fully integrated design and construction service for industry and commerce in the UK.

1987-1988

Matthew Hall Group acquires IDC Group

In 1987, IDC was acquired by the Matthew Hall Group, a chemical and industrial engineering company with a heritage dating back to 1848. By 1988, Matthew Hall Group comprised of over 40 companies and operated in the UK, Australia, Europe and North America.

1988-2007

AMEC acquires Matthew Hall Group

In 1988, the international consultancy, engineering and project management company, AMEC plc, bought Matthew Hall Group. AMEC formed Design and Project Services Limited (DPS) as its construction and civil engineering arm, operating in the UK’s health, defence, industrial, utilities and transport sectors.

1998

AMEC opens for business in Basel, Switzerland

Following business expansion into the Swiss Life Sciences market, AMEC launched its Basel office, extending operations into the pharma, biotech, medtech, fine chemicals and manufacturing sectors in Europe.

2007

Morgan Sindall aquire AMEC, forming Morgan Professional Services

In 2007, Morgan Sindall Group bought AMEC DPS, along with AMEC's urban regeneration business, AMEC Developments (ADL). The move established our company as the design and engineering arm of the Group.

2010

Morgan Sindall Professional Services was established

Morgan Professional Services became Morgan Sindall Professional Services, operating under the Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure umbrella until 2015, when we became a separate entity.

2017

Morgan Sindall Professional Services (UK) become BakerHicks

Marking an impressive heritage, the UK company takes the names of its two founding partners, Howard Hicks and Lord Baker. European expansion continues into Zurich, Switzerland.

2018 - 2020

Further European expansion

Offices opened in Vienna, Austria and Karlsruhe, Germany, further expanding our presence across the D-A-CH region.

2020

European businesses rebrand to BakerHicks

The new company name is rolled out across the D-A-CH businesses, with an additional office opening in Frankfurt, Germany.

2024

Expansion into Denmark

BakerHicks office opens in Copenhagen, Denmark, expanding our life sciences operations.
