The 18th of July marked a special day for BakerHicks on our journey towards net zero, with the installation of eight twin unit electric vehicle charging points at our Motherwell office.
The charging points will provide 16 allocated spaces for staff, visitors and colleagues from sister company, Morgan Sindall Construction, who are based in the same building in Motherwell. Providing a highly competitive tariff, the charge points will help facilitate a move towards a more sustainable mode of transportation for employees and visitors travelling to the office.
Laura James, Head of Scotland, and one of the leads on the project, said:
We’re incredibly proud to be able to launch this EV charging point scheme. For the last two years, we’ve been working our way through landlord negotiations, extensive supplier research as well as delivering the scheme design and managing installation. It’s been a labour of love for everyone involved as more of us are adopting low and zero emissions transport to improve our sustainability efforts. Thank you to the team for making this a reality for us.
The journey towards net zero
BakerHicks are also in talks to install similar chargers at our Warwick office and the landlord of their Salford Quays office has plans to introduce them in the future. We also offer employees access to electric vehicles through the company car scheme that forms part of our employment benefits offer.
The electric vehicle initiative forms part of BakerHicks’ plans to achieve net zero by 2030 alongside our sister companies in Morgan Sindall Group. The Group are highly active in promoting sustainability and driving low carbon initiatives in the UK, including a woodlands programme to plant over 250,000 new trees on Blenheim Estate and a partnership with the Great North Bog to fund peatland conservation and restoration.
On the road to a greener future
These activities contributed to the Group achieving a CDP A rating and being validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
The SBTi assessed the Group’s greenhouse gas reduction targets against their Net-Zero Standard and Near-Term Target criteria and after careful review they approved them as being in-line with a 1.5°C trajectory. The Group’s net-zero target was also commended as currently being the most ambitious designation available through the SBTi process, which means the Group continues to hold a validated, science-based sustainability strategy with targets that positions them ahead of others in the industry.
