Highlights

  • Groundbreaking 2GW offshore link powering 2.5 million homes between the UK and Netherlands
  • Multi-disciplinary design for DCO, including HVDC/HVAC cables and convertor station layouts
  • Collaborative project management drove efficient progress and seamless integration with National Grid Ventures

A proposed new electricity connection between the UK and the Netherlands enabling the transfer of electricity between the two countries. The project supports the integration of renewable energy generated in the North Sea, helping to strengthen energy security and the transition to a lower-carbon energy system.

Supporting National Grid Ventures*, BakerHicks led the Design for Consent phase, delivering technical expertise and adaptive management throughout. A “One Team” approach, safety-led site supervision, and detailed environmental engagement ensured balanced, robust solutions despite land access constraints and complex ground conditions.

*National Grid Ventures (NGV), the commercial arm of National Grid, is responsible for building and operating LionLink and other similar energy projects, focusing on investments in energy infrastructure, technologies, and strategic partnerships that support a secure, resilient, and affordable energy system.
