Opened in 2004, the Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain in Hyde Park is one of London’s most recognisable memorial landscapes, attracting millions of visitors each year. The circular route around the fountain is central to how people experience the space, offering a place to walk, pause and reflect. Over time, sections of the surrounding resin-bound gravel path had become worn, creating the need for sensitive repair and redesign.
Appointed by The Royal Parks through the Highways Engineering Consultancy Services framework, BakerHicks developed detailed proposals to restore the deteriorated sections while maintaining the character and accessibility of the route.
The team carried out visual inspections, prepared the design information and supported delivery by responding to site queries and inspecting the works against specification.
The completed path provides a smoother, more accessible route around the fountain, helping visitors continue to experience this special place safely, comfortably and at their own pace.
