Euroskills: Introducing VR and AR
Gary Hogg and Alisder Brown from BakerHicks’ specialist BIM team recently showcased how Virtual and Augmented Reality can be used in the construction industry at this year’s Euroskill’s event in Budapest, Hungary.
Partnering with New College Lanarkshire, they joined the KnowledgePoint Connect and ATC Partner 3D Home team on the KnowledgePoint booth, welcoming a total of 80,000 visitors over three days.
Visitors to the stand were given the opportunity to experience VR and AR technology and try out the Oculus Rift and HoloLens headsets for themselves. Gary and Alisder guided them through using the headsets, enabling them to move about and interact with models the BakerHicks team had created. This first-hand experience of how this technology is being used in the industry proved a big hit with visitors to the stand, with over 200 visiting the booth each day.
This complimented the other expertise being showcased on the KnowledgePoint booth, with commercial and academic training, 3D printing and BIM experts being on hand to talk to delegates, giving them a holistic overview of technology’s role in engineering design today.
The VR and AR technology showcased is currently being used by the team at BakerHicks on a number of projects with huge benefits, specifically for on-site quality control.
