The Biologicals Development Centre in Biberach is part of Boehringer Ingelheim’s long term plan to expand its biological drug development division, including key therapeutics such as immune-oncology and immunology. The new building flexibly combines biological analytics, process development and drug manufacturing for clinical trials, all under one roof.
Spread over eight storeys, this first-of-a-kind, 32,000 m² research and development centre includes a number of laboratories and workspaces, a pilot plant as well as a manufacturing plant, and has capacity for around 500 employees.
With a combined delivery team of over 100 people drawing from expertise in Switzerland, UK, Germany and Austria, BakerHicks partnered with Boehringer Ingelheim for all phases of the project. From early concept studies through to handover, services included laboratory and process planning, utility and building services, project management and controls, procurement, construction management and commissioning.
