Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a digital representation of a building. Through its processes, geometry and data it allows us to share information in new ways and make the best decisions about the design and lifecycle of the facility.
BIM shares information in a common data environment (CDE) and can be used as an interactive tool, adding time (4D), cost (5D) and asset (6D) information as further ‘dimensions’ to enhance the initial 3D computer model.
At BakerHicks, information modelling has been at the heart of our design process for decades. We design in the virtual environment across all disciplines, helping to deliver efficiencies, reducing capital and life cycle costs, and making sure our solutions are right for clients and their stakeholders.
As BIM Information Manager, we begin with the end in mind, setting an achievable and value-focussed scope from the outset. We monitor and validate progress throughout the design and construction phases, handing over data rich models that save clients time and money for years to come.
Our BIM projects include Marischal Square, the latest development designed to transform the centre of Aberdeen incorporating office, retail and public spaces. We’re also using our skills in BIM for full integration and co-ordination between the project disciplines, as part of the transformation of Whitechapel Station. This will integrate existing London Underground and East London Line services with wider station and public realm improvements.
We’ve designed schools and universities, hospitals, laboratories and airports on new build and refurbishment projects. By producing models in the virtual and augmented world, we allow clients to experience their buildings well before construction begins.
